The Music Enthusiast Podcast # 7 – It’s Interview Time

Welcome to another edition of The Music Enthusiast Podcast. On this episode I play my first band interview I’ve done, which is with the band Night Gallery, and you get to hear about the first half of it on the first part of the show. I also play some songs from a couple Dallas bands, The Blurries, and Gray, the New Black, and even a band all the way from Calcutta, India, Ifs and Buts.

Over in the Dark Side I play the rest of the Night Gallery interview, followed by some songs from Smile Smile, Shaolin Death Squad, The Mermaid Purse, and Dove Hunter.

It’s a great little show, but remember you only get to hear all of it if you’re a member to the WhiskeyBoy Radio Network. So, if you’re not, consider subscribing for as low as $15 or $50 for a year long membership.

Red Angel Theory – ‘When the Dust Settles’ EP

REVIEW - Red Angel Theory – ‘When the Dust Settles’ EP

(by: Matt ‘WhiskeyBoy’ Blake)

The Long awaited EP from Red Angel Theory is finally coming!  Right now you can pre-order the Album for $1  on the band’s facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/redangeltheory!

Red Angel Theory is a four-piece hard rock band that hails from Dallas, Texas. Coming together in the late months of 2010, Red Angel Theory has begun to draw some attention. Fellow musicians and show attendees describe their live performances as “pure un-adulterated energy”, “each member of the group is a supernova of power.”
The band describes their message as a personal reflection of today’seconomic, political, and moral corruptions. “I want to convey a message of Independence and understanding. I want people to start seeing things for themselves again, to recognize control and disaster before it happens. Today we rely too much on what other people have to say, because we’re so detached from reality and our surroundings. We need to start paying attention again.” -Justin(vocals)

I got a chance to hear the album before the release, which will be March 1st, and I have not been able to stop listening!  The 6 tracks that make up the ‘When the Dust Settles’ EP are all unique, but similar enough that the whole thing flows together like a good book.  The title track is absolutely rock at it best.  Killer vocals that move from lyrical and sweeping to hard hitting and in your face are outstanding as Justin Ranton (front man) commands attention as a vocalist; But the stage is set by Brandon Deaton (guitarist) who’s work on this track is nothing short of amazing! Red Angel Theory is not only killer vocals and outstanding guitar work!  I was familiar with Nick Sarabia (Drums) from his work in one of my favorite bands from a few years back… he brings an almost metal sound to some of the tracks with his mastery in the art of percussion; and finally, but certainly no less important that any other member is bassist Phil Sahs… While the bass is not featured much, Phil’s presence can certainly be felt on every track.  Together these guys make a solid, talented and VERY easy to listen to brand of rock.

My personal favorite from the new EP is ‘Inception’, followed closely by ‘The Darkness’  both tracks have an eerie, almost ghost like start, but quickly turn into an audio rock feast for the ears.  These tunes remind me why I LOVE local rock groups.  These guys take a chance and do something a little unconventional in the rock scene and the result is, particularly is the case of “Inception”, a song that really stands apart and can make you excited about music.  Phenomenal is the best word to describe these two tracks… nothing short of phenomenal, folks!  This is music that will move you, enter you, rock you and leave you ready for more!  Yes, I said it… it’s like sex for your ear-hole, without the penetration!

Hit up Red Angel Theory’s Facebook page for more on the band, their shows and to buy the new EP ‘When the Dust Settles’.  Red Angel Theory will be playing at the first Texas Music Unites showcase, hosted and MC’d by Matt ‘WhiskeyBoy’ Blake of WhiskeyBoy Radio, on March 31st at The Curtain Club in Deep Ellum. Be sure to attend this ground breaking event!
