The Music Enthusiast Podcast #42 – “…We’re Just Getting Started…”

I caught four concerts from the past weekend and I begin this show by briefly recapping them, and letting you know which ones are worth you checking out. Then we get to the music, and a tune from RTB2 kicks off the show. Then the Alt/Country band, J. Charles & The Trainrobbers, gets played, while some Rock/Pop bands like, Blameshift and The Orange follow. After going over the concert calendar for the week, things pick back up from that genre with a song by The Material (and also promote their campaign to raise money to make a new record), before getting a little more Rock ‘n’ Roll with the Dead Twins. Then I slow it down a little with the last two songs, the first of which is by Australian singer/songwriter, Sheryn Binks. While a demo song from Champion for the People wraps things up.

If you could, please take our LISTENER SURVEY, and to hear all our shows on your mobile device then just surf on over to http://www.stitcher.com/whiskeyboy to download the Stitcher Radio app and hear us on the go!

Thank you all for listening! I hope you enjoy the show!

TorchCast Episode 8 – Random interviews  - In the 8th installment I am left without a co-host and without a band to sit down and interview so i take matters into my own hands and debut a new segment called “RANDOM INTERVIEWS”. The Music Enthusiast Podcast #24 – Blame It On the Radio

I’ve got another in-studio guest on this episode of the show, and this time it’s Kellen Ross, the founder of the band, Opium Symphony.

There’s a beefy little interview (nearly an hour long) and we talk everything from how Kellen got into music and all of the trials and tribulations he’s had along the way. You know, with the OS currently being in it’s third incarnation with him having had to fire 5 to 6 previous members go.

But that’s all interesting filler. The real reason for all of this is to discuss their debut full-length record, “Blame It On the Radio”, which they will be releasing this Friday, June 8th, at the Curtain Club in Dallas.

Some stories are told about the recording process of it all (which took the band 2 years) and you get to hear a few songs from it, including “Jukebox Junkie”, the new version of “Deaf Radio”, and finally an amazing track titled “Down the Rabbit Hole”.

Their near 50 city tour (which will focus on the eastern part of the country) is also subject of discussion, and I’m going to list all those dates now:

Aug 11 @ Pumphouse in Wichita, KS / Aug 15 @ Bash’s in Lubbock, TX

That’s all the dates as they currently stand, but I imagine more might be added.

After Kellen left I added a bit more to the show, including playing a song by The Breakfast Machine (by the way, vote of their singer, Meghann Moore, for the best female vocalist in the Fort Worth Weekly Music Awards) who will be opening for the OS at the Curtain Club, go over the concert calendar for upcoming D-FW shows this week, and conclude things with a song from Blameshift.

I do want to again thank Kellen for doing this interview, and to anyone who hasn’t seen or heard of Opium Symphony, I’d say they have grown into one of the best live bands in the Dallas area. If they are playing near you, go see them, and be sure to check out “Blame It On the Radio” when it is released digitally on June 19th.

And be sure to visit them on all their websites: Official Website / Facebook / Twitter / Youtube / Reverbnation / Google+ / Soundcloud

TorchCast Episode 5 – Kennedy Shuts It Down

TorchCast Episode 5 – In this episode Katie and I are joined by D/FW Hard Rock band Kennedy, fresh out a weekend packed with shows including playing in front of a packed crowd at Trees with Black Stone Cherry. We discuss the multiple versions of Kennedy and how the current line up came to be along with plenty of other things including their thoughts on being a band that actually cares for and interacts with fans whenever possible.

KB reads a few CraigsList  musician want ads and we talk about attention spans and how one of the adds was just way to long and was all over the place and also KB discusses the show American Idol and how it pretty much sucks.

I go over some music news… Is Drowning Pool’s new singer none other than James Durbin? Why are they playing two random shows together.. 80  American All Shall Perish fans are being sued for illegally downloading the band’s latest album by someone who is not the band, management or their label yet somehow has the rights to the songs. I also read a concert review of Meshuggah by “MetalGF” and commend her for actually going to a metal show with her boyfriend to support him and his love for Metal

We play 3 songs of Kennedy’s full length album “Diaries Vol 1″ which are “The Novel Fate”, “Blue Eyes” and “The Laws of Morality” and discuss what inspired Callie to write “Blue Eyes”. All songs can be bought via iTunes but myself and the band prefer you just buy the entire album.

We discuss upcoming shows for Kennedy and of course Upcoming Torch Entertainment shows including having The Sammus Theory in Dallas June 2 at Renos and the Straight Line Stitch/BlameShift show June 7 at Tomcats West.

Also included in this episode is “Pedestal” by The Sammus Theory, “Figure Out A Way” by BlameShift and “Colors Run Red” by Fantasma.

“Pedestal” can by found on the album “Trusting The Liar” which can be found on iTunes, their website and at any shows.

“Figure Out A Way” can be found on the album “The Black Rose” which is available on iTunes, BigCartel and at live shows.

“Colors Run Red” can be found on the album “Stories Of Earth Women” which is available on iTunes, and at any Fantasma live show.

TorchCast Episode 4 – Urizen Needs Money

Episode 4 – In this episode I was asked to drive out to Denton to meet the “Space Pagan” band Urizen, on the way there I was abducted along with Katie Boyd from Sawed Off Productions and RYA Entertainment Group. Unfortunately the sound quality in space is not that good however we were able to figure out that basically Urizen needs money to go on tour starting this weekend. Thomas and Daniel also announced the new member which is none other than Rustin of American High fame. We agreed upon three songs from their latest record Universe: Red which were “Boxmen”, “Nothing is Epic” and “The Lonely Resident”. After the members of Urizen determined that I was actually costing them money instead of helping them make money they sent Katie and I back to Earth.

After returning to Earth, KB and I sat down and read some great articles from Craigslist about Dragon Slaying and a metal guitarist looking for a band to play with in the Austin area.  We also had Katie tell us what bitches love….

And of course there was music from RivetHead (Slay The Dragon), BlameShift (Ghost), and The Sammus Theory (Trusting The Liar)

Listen and enjoiy!!

You can purchase Universe: Red from Urizen via BandCamp or Itunes. To help Urizen raise money simply go to the Urizen Bandcamp and listen to and buy their new single “Boxmaker”
