GREAT review of the Rains show from last month is up at http://themusicenthusiast.com/ – “Besides being pissed off, I’d also say that this was the saddest fucking excuse of a performance I have ever seen.” There is MY favorite quote… go give it a read! Very insightful! Much love to Jordan Buford for ALL he does for music!

- Hey Katie did you tell them about the part where you’re a complete scam artist and treated us like absolute shit ALL day and didn’t pay us our guarantee or comply with ANYTHING in our contract and now we’re suing you? Fucking promoter my ass. I love all of you morons that think you can call yourself a “Promoter” and think it’s completely ok to fuck over bands. We should have listened to all of the Local Bands you put on the show who made it very clear that you’re a complete worthless waste of human space, and tried to convince us that we shouldn’t even play the show BEFORE we went on. Don’t you worry i’ll be sending WhiskeyBoy Blake, Jordan Buford, and Stephen Keith Page a VERY detailed email on EXCACTLY what went down that day so they can all know why it appeared we gave “the saddest fucking excuse of a performance” they’ve ever seen. I hope you sleep well at night knowing all the bands you take advantage of. I can only IMAGINE some of the other shit you’ve pulled. I feel sorry for you, and all other “Promoters” Like you. Actually now that I think about it i’ll go ahead and copy all of your friends/bands on your “Promoter” page on the email I send out with details of the events of that day. Probably a good idea to let everyone you’re involved with know what your about so no one else gets ripped off right? I would hate for you to have to take too much time from all of your strenuous “promoting” efforts due to dealing with all of these lawsuits that are inevitably coming your way!

Wow… that was a pretty shitty response from someone who didn’t put on a performance worth my $10 door charge… I’d be really interested to hear the side of the story that you guys offer up… but EVERYTHING else aside… is it right for you guys to half-ass a performance and cut it short, because your rock star egos got hurt over some bullshit? I don’t care what the situation… there is not a forgivable reason to pull the plug on a show that ANYONE showed up to see… bottom line… You guys need new and better management. Maybe get over yourself and get on a fucking label so you can get the attention, time and work you obviously need. Still… interested to hear your side of the story that would make it ok to stop a show mid-set when people showed up to hear you play.

- Oh trust me that wasn’t a shitty response. Based on the way we were treated and the fact that Katie conned us into driving clear to arlington with absolutely NO INTENTION of paying us what she was contractually obligated to pay, and broke every single other term in the contract, that was an EXTREMELY nice response. Don’t you worry i’ll be sending out that email just to let everyone know the full extent of what happened that day. And rock start egos??? Are you fucking kidding me? Yeah here’s my ego: I have a wife and a four year old daughter and my JOB that puts FOOD on my families table and a ROOF over their head is to play music. There’s this odd thing that happens when you work any other job; YOU GET PAID!!!!!! So yes I have a massive ego that’s called “I have to take care of my family”. I love that a promoter like this can completely screw a band over and it’s viewed as the band being “assholes”, not the truth, which is the promoter completely lied, scammed us, and broke an entire contract.

- I’m not saying this to Rains or any performer specifically, but just in general. As a musician who has played a few less-than-optimal gigs, you NEVER short-change ANYONE in the audience. You always give 110% to the people in attendance, bec…See More

WhiskeyBoy Blake Jeremy’s comment is right on point with where I am going with this… No one will ever give two shits about the behind the scenes problems and bullshit that every band goes through… but they will remember when a band stops their set in the middle or when then tour manager jumps on stage and starts unplugging shit.

- Hahaha. Awesome. You guys live in a very interesting delusional world. So basically what your saying is; if your job said “we need you to work 15 hours today, but we are NOT going to pay you a thing”, you’d be ok with that? I’m done with this discussion.

- First off, thank you Stephen! Glad you liked it & I do hope you’ll come back to my blog. I make a few new posts a week, so check back whenever you get some free time & you’ll probably find something new.
- WOW! This really took an interesting turn, didn’t it? I’m looking forward to that email too, Jeff. Also, I was told and had heard there was supposed to be another band on the bill who was touring with y’all (3 Pill Morning) and since they were a no show that was a breach of contract.
- Jeremy, I agree with you buddy. I may not be in a band or have any musical skill, but I feel when you step on stage you are obligated to play for whatever the specified length of time is. And I know you (Jeremy) have. I’ve seen some Night Gallery shows where y’all have a less than stellar attendance, but still give it your all. Also, I’m not a fan of Lady Gaga by any means, but I heard a portion of an interview she did recently where she said you need to treat the stadium shows like they are the small bar gigs, and any show in a bar you need to act as if the biggest show you’ll ever play.

Did I really just get challenged to a fight with by a grown man??? Hahahahah. Keeping it classy I see. I hope your 6 year old daughter stumbles across this one day and realizes what kind of “role model” her father is. Hahahaha. I feel sorry for you sir! And I would accept your challenge but we both know we wouldn’t get paid to do the show, thus resulting in another lawsuit. You keep doing your little “podcast” and keep supporting your con artist “promoter” friends, and we’ll keep touring on our 2 “shitty” hits. Deal? Is it weird to you that as repayment to our fans for having to cut the show short due to the circumstances of the show we had them all on our bus hanging out having drinks after the show? Asshole move on our part I’d say!!! It’s also odd to me that every other show on this tour has been phenomenal as they we’re actually PROMOTED by actual PROMOTERS……..I’m sure that’s our fault too. Oh these silly musicians trying to support their families! What were we thinking?!?!?!?
I just got the “promoters” phone number too and left a voicemail. You may want to get in on this as well. Here’s the “attorneys” number: (817) 494-2075
I’m offering you the chance to play a show and prove you can put on a decent show… blowing it off and saying “we won’t get paid for it” is a punk ass response. You played a shitty show.. bottom line. I don’t do my show to support any promoters I support musicians… no promoters tell me who to play on my station. And I feel sorry for you, sir… trading time home with your wife and daughter to do a tour you obviously aren’t ready (as a musician) to headline.
I still haven’t heard you deny the fact that your show was pathetic. You just keep attacking and placing blame on others for a bad situation. SO, are you telling me that the more you get paid for a gig the better you will perform? And you don’t care anything about your music, fans or the shows?
We’re still waiting on your email.
I was not at the show in question, but I recently saw Rains for the first time at another stop on their tour. I don’t see them being egotistical or having a sense of entitlement. At the show I attended, there was a very small turnout as well. I honestly just felt bad for the bands. I ended up buying a lot of merch because I really wanted to support them with more than whatever “cut” of my $8 cover they might possibly see. I certainly felt like I got well more than my money’s worth. It hardly seemed like it could have been worth their while to travel, setup, perform, and pack up for the handful of audience members that weren’t part of another band. However, all five of the bands, including Rains, put on excellent performances regardless of how few people they were playing for. I was grateful to them for being professional and providing solid entertainment, given the circumstances. It was a very relaxed atmosphere, with all the bands hanging out with the patrons. While I really wish that Rains could have had a much larger crowd to share their music with, it certainly worked out great for me. I was able to be less than two feet from them while they were performing. I didn’t hear anything wrong with Jeff’s singing. It sounded great to me. He may not be the most high energy performer I’ve ever seen, but I was honestly fine with that. To me, Rains’s music is very deep and thoughtful. I was able to close my eyes and really feel the music and the emotion behind it. I’d been wanting to see them live since I was first introduced to their music a couple of years ago. Their songs have special meaning to me for personal reasons, and I felt that all the members of the band did them justice. It seemed as though Jeff may have been somewhat depressed about how things were going for them, but I wouldn’t hold it against him if he was. Jason was very encouraging to the few fans that were there, trying to get them closer and more involved. Matt was really friendly and great after the show, taking the time to approach us and express his appreciation that we were true fans knowing all the words. We got an autographed set list, and I definitely left very satisfied. I was looking forward to seeing them again, but unfortunately their next show in my area had to be rescheduled. I will certainly be attending any future show of theirs that I can. They have done nothing to disappoint this fan. I have been to a lot of concerts in the past three years, and I have witnessed musicians that think they are above it all and have no regard for their fans. Rains does not fall into that category. To sum it up, I’m very sorry to Rains that they seem to have not been given a fair shake in regard to promotion and management during this tour. I hope that they continue to persevere and know that there are people that genuinely care about their music and what they have to offer. This whole situation seems ridiculous, and I hope that it all gets sorted out fairly. I know I wasn’t there, but I’m inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt. I wouldn’t blame Rains in the slightest for being frustrated with the outcome. I hope the rest of their tour goes better for them.
Lilrock, you better be carefully or a fancy-pants lawyer is gonna sue you for all your millions like Katie! *snort
(Crazy how ordinary people like to pretend they have lawyers in their back pockets that they can just snap to attention on a whim. I am waiting on pins and needles to see this played out on Court TV! TEAM KATIE)
Hey, I’m with you on their music… I like the studio stuff… but this performance was CRAP and I’ve since seen MANY videos of Jeff performing just as badly. The vocals are lacking, plain and simple. But even that might have been overlooked if they hadn’t been so immature and ‘taken their toys and gone home’, so to speak. I don’t care how many people show up to see you or what issues you have with bookers or promoters… people came to see you do a show… DO THE SHOW. Gerbera Girl, if their manager had stopped the show after 4 or 5 songs and they just left, you would be pissed off too… THAT is the argument I am making… I don’t care what the other problems are… no one who is coming to see them perform cares… we are there to see a show.
Which is worse, a grown man challenging you to a fight or a grown man pretending to have a lawyer who will file lots of lawsuits over a stupid band whining about their lackluster performance? *snort
Oh, how I love the threat of lawsuits in the afternoon.
Lets role play, shall we?

**Ring ring***
Attorney: “Law office, can i help you?”
Jeff the badass: “Ugh, yea, this is Jeff Rains. I want to sue Katie Boyd because my band sucks and people talked shit about me on a blog only an extremely obscure percent of people I know will ever see after she treated us like absolute shit ALL day. Gah!” ((boo hooo))
Attorney: “What damages did you suffer due to Miss Boyd being sooo mean to you that your band sucked even worse on this occasion than any other day?” ((sounds like Ms. Boyd has super powers. Powers that make bands suck when they otherwise wouldn’t. It must be boobie powers. Girls with big boobies easily confuse men. )) **wink**
Jeff the badass: “Well, because of her being mean, I sucked ass at the performance, people are making fun of me and, in return, I got mad and spent 4 hrs out of my Tuesday talking shit to random people on facebook.”
Attorney: “Well, this is the real world, not an episode of “Beverly Hills 90210.” You can’t really sue someone for “treating you like absolute shit all day” and being mean to you. Courts don’t award damages for facebook drama. Therefore, you have 0.000001/2 % chance of winning this case (and that percentage is based on the scenario that we sue her and she doesnt respond and you win by default.) With that being said, …. is Katie Boyd independently wealthy with extremely valuable time and therefore likely to agree to fork over $5,000 that I can take 40% of and then give the rest to you for causing you to fight with littlerockersteve?”
Jeff the badass: “Ummm. no. I dont think Katie has a bunch of money.”
Attorney: “Ok, well, lets do this: You give me $500 cash and I will write Katie a letter on attorney letterhead and threaten to sue her unless she stops making her boobies muddle up your clear thinking. That way, she will think you really do have a lawyer and you can go brag to people that you put a stop to that mean ole’ Katie with her powerful boobies that hypnotize bands and make them suck.
Jeff the badass: (silence as the phone goes dead and he proceeds to smoke a joint and drink 2 beers that he just bought with his last $5.)
If the show I attended had been interrupted that way and ended abruptly, I would have been disappointed, but I wouldn’t have been angry with the band. I actually do care what the other problems are/were. As a fan, I’m interested in more than just the music. I care about the musicians and the obstacles they encounter. I choose to believe that they had their reasons for not fighting the manager when they were told to stop. I think that sometimes there are valid reasons for cutting a set short, especially if it’s apparent that things aren’t working. Only the band truly knows what went on “behind the scenes”, and it doesn’t feel like our place to condemn. I’m not saying that the situation was necessarily handled the way it should have been, though. To me, it seems that this whole issue has devolved into a bunch of negativity, name calling, and personal attacks on both sides. It’s unfortunate that it came to this. I wish everyone the best.

You know…most of the time when my band plays, regardless of whether there’s a promoter involved, we take some sort of personal responsibility in ensuring that there WILL BE people at our show. It’s not the promoter’s job to expose people to your music or make it any better than it is. It’s their job to hype an event. Maybe she did a horrible job hyping up the event, and maybe she didn’t come through on some contractual obligation that you still haven’t been willing to provide with any level of specificity, but YOUR music and YOUR name didn’t draw anyone to this empty bar to see you play. And most likely that speaks to the quality of your musicianship, songwriting and SELF-promotional abilities. If you don’t DRAW in Arlington, don’t PLAY in Arlington.
I was at this Arlington, TX show, and actually drank all of their beer out of their dressing room (whoops) that’s what those bastards get for leaving that fucking thing open!!! I didn’t give a shit about what they sounded like or even cared that they were playing, I was there for the $3 steak which just so happened to be that the venue was out of. (I think the girl who charged me at the door ate em all). I will never be returning to this venue or going to any shows being promoted by Miss Piggy ever again. I’m with you whiskey boy radio! Let’s boycott music!
KYS.
Mikki Kane.
(did I already say I drank ALL OF the FUCKING BEER IN THEIR DRESSING ROOM?! which smelled like cotton candy and propane leak.)
Wow, Mikki, clearly you were NOT at this show. For one, there was no girl at the door taking anyone’s money. If there was, we need a description of her, so we can track down where your cover and all that steak went. It’s sad that you are not a muppet fan, as Miss Piggy is something of a legend, and that is something you will clearly never be. Apparently I missed something pretty big, since WhiskeyBoy Radio is notorious for being a HUGE supporter of talented local rock bands, and, um… You clearly aren’t. I would also love to know how you managed to down 13 beers and a case of water in 7 minutes?
<3 Love,
Miss Piggy
