Well friends, the year is drawing to a close, which means, like everyone else, it’s time for me to do a best of list. So, on this show we rundown my Top 10 list of best EP’s that were released in 2011 and you get to hear a song from each of them! On the free side of the show I play some Descender, Moving Atlas, Of Verona, ReDefine, and Trebuchet for ya, as well as go over my recommendations of shows to see in and around the Dallas are for the next week.

The Music Enthusiast Podcast # 1 – The Big Flippin’ Christmas Show

We are PROUD to premier Jordon’s Music Enthusiast Podcast… this guy is outstanding, and we know you will LOVE him and the music he brings to us soon, just like we do!

Welcome, everyone, to the very first episode of the, The Music Enthusiast Podcast! This first show is themed around Christmas music, and you get to hear a ton of it, all from your favorite (or soon to be favorite) local bands! In the first half of the show we play the Christmas tune by People On Vacation, from their debut EP, “The Carry On“. We also play music fromEl Cento which can be found on Idol Records‘ “An Idol Christmas” compilation, singer/songwriter, Steven Graves, Air Review, and Of Verona, as well as go over the upcoming concerts in the next week.

In the second half hour we play a lot more music, including stuff from Here Holy Spain, Smile Smile, Eleven Hundred Springs, who has music featured on Kirtland Records‘ “The Lights Connected” music compilation, Sunward, Mon Julien, and Quiet Company. REVIEW: Dawn Over Zero’s – Unity and Division

FIRST, I want to tell you that you can get Dawn Over Zero’s latest Album, “Unity and Division”, here - http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/dawnoverzero4 - and I would suggest you do it.  As soon as you can!  We have already played several of the tracks on the show and will be bringing you the rest of the album and a review of the album on the show soon, but I wanted to write this review, because this album deserves all the attention it can get!

Dawn Over Zero (DOZ) is a band that, from the first time I saw and heard them, I knew I would never look at music the same.  Their sound is unique and familiar at the same time.  This band is what rock music is all about; the song writing, lyrics and performances will all leave you blown away.  When the single “Carry Me Home” from this newest album was released I was literally giddy. I had been eagerly awaiting new music from DOZ, since their self titled EP had left me completely rocked and wanting more!

Unity and Division sets a new standard in Rock.  From start to finish – it is a 10 track, 38 minute, feast for the rock beast inside you!  While the obvious places to start listening might be the previously mentioned single “Carry Me Home” or the AMAZING cover of  Johnny Hates Jazz’s ‘Shattered Dreams’ (which is fucking GENIUS, by the way); I would urge you to take in this album from Track 1 to 10, because every track holds something sensational!  From the hard rock sounds of “The Obvious”, “Carry Me Home” and “Caricatures” to the smooth, amazing sound of “Sound of Goodbye”, Unity and Division is an album that you can listen to, all the way through, over and over again!

My favorite track from DOZ’s latest effort is “Give and Take”, it is a killer tune with a hard but fun feel to it… if that song doesn’t get your head bobbing then you have no soul!  All in all, Unity and Division is as solid an album as I have heard in a long time… not since alternative rock’s glory days in the early 90′s can I remember enjoying an entire album this much. Get the album and then go see these guys live, it’s like a party with all your best friends and one helluva show!
